HISTORY & PURPOSE
A Bible training ministry started
here on a smaller scale in the mid-1960s, but it was in the early
1970s, after a couple other NCEM-operated Bible schools closed their
doors, that Northern Canada Evangelical Mission started developing
facilities and programs on the Lac La Biche campus.
From its very beginning, the purpose and mandate of Key-Way-Tin Bible Institute has been to disciple Native Christians in their
walk with the Lord and train them for ministry in the church. The
KBI curriculum provides a strong emphasis in Bible knowledge,
Christian living, and training for Christian service.
KBI is a discipleship school, hence
much individual attention is given to working with each student in
various areas of their lives. We believe that one's heart
relationship with the Lord is of greater importance than academic
achievement. And we believe that anyone who really has a heart's desire
to know Christ can learn to understand and personally apply the
truths of God's Word, regardless of their academic abilities.
While our School program aims at
equipping Native believers for leadership in the church, there are
many who take the program simply to receive a Biblical foundation
upon which to live the rest of their lives.
Students have come from all across
Canada, parts of the United States and overseas. Many different
tribes and languages are represented by these students. All classes
are taught in English as English is the only common language between
all these groups of people.
STATEMENT of FAITH
1. We believe that the Scriptures of
the Old and New Testament are verbally inspired by God and inerrant
in the original writing, and that they are of supreme and final
authority in faith and life.
2. We believe in One God, eternally
existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
3. We believe that Jesus Christ was
begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true
God and true Man.
4. We believe that man was created in
the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only
physical death, but also spiritual death, which is separation from
God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, thus
being sinners in thought, word and deed.
5. We believe in the personality of
Satan.
6. We believe that the Lord Jesus
Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a
representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who
believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
7. We believe in the resurrection of
the crucified body of our Lord, in His bodily ascension into Heaven,
and in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.
8. We believe in the "Blessed
Hope" - the personal, premillennial and imminent return of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
9. We believe that all who accept by
faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and so
become children of God.
10. We believe in the present
ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is
enabled to live a godly life and bear fruit which will remain.
11. We believe in the bodily
resurrection of both the just and the unjust - the just to
everlasting bliss and the unjust to everlasting punishment.
Note: We share this same Statement of Faith
with Northern Canada Evangelical Mission, of which KBI is a
ministry department. As a member of NCEM
(which is a member of CrossGlobal
Link), KBI maintains a strong biblical position in its
theological stand, and adheres to a non-charismatic orientation.
AFFILIATIONS & MEMBERSHIPS
KBI is an interdenominational school and enjoys
the fellowship and support of many denominations and missionary
organizations. Students enrolled at KBI represent many church
fellowships and groups involved in Native missions.
KBI does not offer a degree program.
However, several of our graduates have been able to transfer most of
their credits from our three-year Diploma of Biblical Studies
Program and go on to receive a degree at an accredited Bible
college.
As a department of Northern Canada
Evangelical Mission (NCEM), KBI is further assisted by its
membership with CrossGlobal Link and
Inter-Mission Cooperative Outreach (IMCO),
which includes the Native Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (NEFC).
LOCATION & FACILITIES
Key-Way-Tin Bible Institute is
located just outside the town of Lac La Biche, Alberta,
Canada, which is 232 km (145 miles) northeast of Edmonton. Access to
Lac La Biche is via Highway #36 from the south and Highway #55
from the west. The 55-acre campus is located (on the left side of
Highway #881) three kilometers east of town, along the lake shore
of Lac La Biche.
KBI presently has facilities to
accommodate up to 6 student families and 37 single students. Much
attention has been given recently to the upgrading of our existing
student family accommodations. There is a men's dorm and a ladies'
dorm for the single students. KBI has a quonset-style building which
contains the kitchen and dining room for the single students. The
main administration building contains three classrooms, a library,
an auditorium/gymnasium, administration offices, and a bookstore.
Besides the gymnasium, KBI's recreational facilities include an
outdoor ice rink, outdoor volleyball court, baseball field,
soccer/football field, horseshoe pits, and canoes.
TOWN of LAC LA BICHE & COMMUNITY
SERVICES
The town of Lac La Biche is situated
on the south-east end of Lac La Biche (Lake of the Deer). The lake
itself is a designated bird sanctuary and provides both residents
and visitors with beautiful scenery, fishing, and camping
facilities. The Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is situated on
an island, joined to the mainland by a causeway. With a population
of 2500, Lac La Biche offers a small town setting while providing
all the services one might need.
In Lac La Biche there are four public
schools for various age levels, kindergarten through high school (a
public school bus comes right on the KBI campus to take the children
to the schools in town). There are two medical clinics, a
modern hospital and public health unit, four banks, six gas
stations, and several stores including three large grocery stores.
